Prime Lenses Makes Photography More Fun

7/11/2023
Shooting with a prime lens feels different in a good way. Since you cannot zoom in and out, you have to move your body, pay attention to the scene, and think more carefully about what you are trying to frame.
At first, that can feel a little limiting. But over time, it actually helps train your eye. You start noticing distance, background, angles, and the small moments happening around your subject. Instead of just zooming until the photo looks right, you learn to compose with more intention.
That is one of the things I really appreciate about prime lenses. They slow me down just enough to see better. And in photography, slowing down usually leads to better images.
There is also the practical benefit of low-light performance. Many prime lenses have wider apertures, which means they can let in more light. That helps a lot when shooting indoors, at events, in churches, restaurants, or anywhere the lighting is not ideal. It allows you to keep the image cleaner, create a softer background, and capture the moment without making the photo feel too forced.
Prime lenses are also usually very sharp, which makes them fun to use. There is something simple and enjoyable about putting on one lens, walking around, and looking for the shot. It makes photography feel more active, personal, and intentional.
For me, shooting with primes is not only about image quality. It is also about the way it shapes the process. It helps me slow down, move with purpose, and become more connected to what I am photographing.
